Tips and techniques for working with individuals who are escalated and/or in crisis.

This presentation will cover the basics of de-escalation and communication from the perspective of a frontline behavioral health worker specializing in crisis intervention.  Participants will gain tips and techniques for working with individuals who are escalated and/or in crisis.  Students will be encouraged to share their own experiences working with individuals who are in crisis and explore potential scenarios that they may feel unprepared to handle in their work.

Topics will include: Philosophy and basics of client centered communications, scene safety, de-escalation strategies, rapport building, the role of self in any intervention, and the importance of debriefing.
